Day trip around Roquefixade, accompanied by one or more donkeys.

A loop to discover all the charm of Roquefixade. A pleasant ascent, shaded by the hamlet of Coulzonne and the cave, to the Calm plateau and the Marot rock (1001m), offering exceptional panoramic views of the village, the castle ruins below, the nearby Pyrenees, Montségur and the Toulouse plain on the horizon. Then a descent that takes you through the medieval bastide, where you can enjoy a terrace and a drink at the gîte d'étape. Return on the flat Cathar trail, a distance of 10 km.

For safety reasons, no more than one donkey per adult.

The equipment

If you're camping, you'll need to carry a lot more equipment and food than if you're staying in accommodation:

In tents: 1 donkey for 2/3 people; 2 donkeys for 4/5 people; 3 donkeys for 6/7 people.

In accommodation: 1 donkey for 4/5 people; 2 donkeys for 6/8 people.

(without children on the donkey's back).

To keep your donkey happy and fit, your luggage should weigh no more than 30kg per donkey, to which should be added the weight of the pack-saddle and your donkey's maintenance kit, i.e. a total of around 40kg to be carried by the donkey.
